A PHOTO MEMOIR

 ENTRY #2

Where: Banff

When: DECEMBER 2023

Why: SOLO TRAVEL TRIP

My solo trip to Banff in Alberta, Canada was a spur of the moment trip. I had visited this place during my drive from Chicago to Alaska over the summer and I was eager to see it in its winter glory. I had a week off before the holidays and I wanted to take advantage of the time off so I hopped on my computer and researched for deals and 8 hours later, I was on my flight to Canada!

The natural beauty of Banff's surrounding lakes and mountains made it Canada's first National Park and the world's third national park refuge, and part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Priceline came through with the great deal I got on accommodation, car and flight combo. I had a great little boutique accommodation with a lovely view of the mountains that glistened every night through my window. I had a little winter adventure which - if you know me by now, you know I love winter wonderland scenes. I stopped along the way at some scenic stops from Calgary and was overcome by the beauty of the mountains.

It always gets me. I decided to hire a driver for a day to drive me to the hot spots of the area so that I didn’t have to worry about researching, worrying about weather and making sure I was safe. My new friend, Rick did not disappoint! I brought along a dress I had planned to get photos in and Rick became my photographer. He gained some camera tricks and photography skills and I got some photos which is a win win!

Memories to remember

Rick drove me around to spots I would have been hesitant to go alone. As much as I love wildlife, I did not want to encounter any while alone in the wilderness. We hit some great little spots for photos throughout the day. My only regret is not having hired him for a second day. Nevertheless, I gained a great friend and look forward to returning again
in the future. I highly recommend touring, Banff and riding through the Icefield Parkway to Jasper. It was a memorable evening and we ended it by hitting the coco trail for a warm cup of cocoa!

Highlights included:

Gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain – lunch on top with a view

Hot Cocoa trail

Sleigh ride

Lake Louise

Banff Upper Hot springs

Tour throughout Banff with hired driver, Rick
